Numerous companies offer this. Most GDS providers have connections with property management systems or hotel channel managers. As a result, hotels have the potential to fully automate GDS system usage, and also to manage their listings – including their hotel description, list of facilities and photos – all from a single location. Galileo GDS forms the part of Travelport and is regarded as one of the 3 major global distribution systems (GDS). These systems are used to connect hotels with travel agents, who can use access to real-time inventories to sell hotel rooms to their customers. This can expand the reach a hotel has, resulting in a greater number of bookings.

Apollo was the first computerized central reservation system created by United Airlines. A significant proportion of airline tickets were sold by travel agents during the 1980s and early 1990s. Flights by the airline owning the reservation system had a preferential display on the computer screen. In an attempt to gain market share in the computer reservation system market, airlines created Worldspan and Galileo. And by inference, the commercial airline market due to the high market penetration of the Sabre and Apollo systems, owned by American Airlines and United Airlines, respectively. Nine European carriers are the forces behind the formation of Galileo in 1987-- Swissair, British Airways, Olympic, Sabena, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Air Portugal, and Aer Lingus were those carriers. United Airlines spun off its Apollo reservation system, which was then controlled by Covia in response and to prevent possible government intervention. At the time of Covia acquired Europe's Galileo and merged it with the Apollo system in 1992, Galileo International was born. The Apollo reservation system has been used till March 3, 2012, by united airlines, when it switched to SHARES, a system used by its former Continental Airlines subsidiary. Apollo is still used by Galileo International travel agency customers in the U.S, Mexico, Canada, and Japan. Galileo UK was originally created from Travicom which the world’s first multi-access reservations system was using the technology developed by Videcom. Travicom was a company launched by Videcom, British Airways, British Caledonian and CCL in 1976 and in 1988, it became Galileo UK.
